Food Insecurity and Disability in the US
Recent reports from the US Department of Agriculture report a high correlation between food insecurity and the presence of an adult with a disability in the household. When an adult is out of the workforce because of their disability, food insecurity is at its most prevalent, with 33.9% of such households reporting some level of food insecurity. 16.4% of these households reported very low food security, the more severe form of food insecurity, compared to households without an adult with a disability, which reported only 3.4% of households with very low food security.
