AMA Supports a Change in Charity Care Standards

At the Interim Meeting of the American Medical Association in November 2024, the AMA voted to support stricter standards for nonprofit hospitals and advocated for the standardization of charity care. The standards request more transparency and a more precise eligibility standard for both institutions and patients. The standards also discuss more enforcement of charity care’s purpose, encouraging hospitals to give back to the communities they are designed to help. This is a massive step in the right direction for reforming charity care. Read more about the AMA’s standards here.
